Investigative Interns will work under the supervision of our current staff Investigation team. Investigative interns should be enthusiastic seekers of information. They will assist staff investigators in cultivating leads and further areas of inquiry from available information. Interns will learn to go where specific information may be, how to determine whether or not it exists, and how to collect such information. The intern will receive general supervision from the Chief Investigator and participate in case staffings with Attorneys.
We will be filling 2 positions in both our downtown Portland and Hillsboro offices. These positions will go for 12 weeks, from Tuesday, May 27th 2025 to Friday, August 15th 2025. The first several weeks of the internship will include training as well as shadowing licensed investigators. Throughout the summer the intern will scale up to working on a number of cases on their own, with tasks including but not limited to: interviewing witnesses, assisting with Civil Compromises, requesting documents and certain records, visiting locations where alleged crimes took place and taking pictures, tracking down people or evidence, etc.
This position is unpaid, though reimbursement will be given for mileage connected to investigation on a given case.
Applicants should meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in secondary education for criminal justice, pre-law, government administration, social work, or other related field
- Ability to pass background check to access clients and witnesses in correctional facilities (may preclude applicants arrested and jailed) and to testify in court without impeachment (may preclude applicants convicted of certain crimes within the prior 15 years)
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Preference given to bilingual applicants fluent in Spanish
