Under the supervision of an experienced attorney, interns will work with Community Law Department’s Criminal Collateral Consequences and Eviction Prevention teams to address the collateral consequences of involvement in the criminal legal system—including barriers to housing access, eviction defense, employment, driver’s licenses, and economic stability.
Our summer program requires an 11-week commitment (May 26-Aug. 7, 2026). The program begins with a one-week training period designed to prepare law clerks for success. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas, including client interaction, legal research and writing, eligibility analysis for collateral consequence services, SB 819 applications, and more. The internship is hybrid, with opportunities to work in person at CLD’s downtown Portland office, its Hillsboro office, or remotely. Some activities—including legal clinics and portions of the training—will require in-person attendance.
Applicants meeting Certified Law Students requirements will have the opportunity to engage in all aspects of Community Law cases, including court appearances and advocacy under attorney supervision.
This is an unpaid position; however, we will support interns in applying for PILP stipends and can provide supervision and documentation for academic externship credit.
