The Staff Attorney, using autonomy and independence, provides legal representation to homeless youth in eviction defense, public benefits, barrier reduction, matrimonial, family offense, custody, visitation and child support cases. This position is assigned to a special project in partnership with New Avenues for Youth, Portland’s homeless youth shelter. Homeless youth are high risk for involvement with the criminal justice system and the project uses civil litigation to disrupt a system that incarcerates trauma and poverty. The Staff Attorney represents youth in all stages of litigation. The Staff Attorney also conducts presentations and trainings to internal and external audiences including community-based organizations and other service based providers of people who are high risk for entry into the criminal justice system.
